Animal Welfare Society, Inc. (AWS) has been serving the community for over sixty years! During this time, AWS has served thousands of families by helping over 12,000 pets receive the medical care they needed and placed them in loving homes. AWS offers refuge to homeless dogs and cats and places them in loving, responsible homes. Each year we care for hundreds of cats and dogs from our local areas that enter our clean, bright, and warm shelter. Some are surrendered to us because their owner passed away or a family is in crisis. Others are strays or have been abandoned. We work closely with local and state Animal Control Officers to assist with abuse and neglect cases. Additionally, we partner with other local reputable shelters and rescues to help combat the homeless and abandoned pet crisis in Connecticut.
 
From the moment they enter our care, these dogs and cats are no longer unwanted. We provide excellent veterinary care, vaccinations, preventive worming, feline leukemia testing, and canine heartworm and tick-borne disease testing and treatment. We spay or neuter and microchip every pet prior to adoption. An emergency medical fund provides care for cats and dogs with serious medical conditions or injuries.
