ATENAS
is a 3 year old Shepherd/lab mix. She came to us from Puerto Rico.
She is very friendly and outgoing with people. She'll need basic obedience and leash work. A home without cats would be most suitable for Atenas.

RUSTY
Bouncy, trouncey, ouncey, pouncey - fun, fun, fun, fun, fun! Wait, are we singing a song about (fictional) Tigger or (actual dog) Rusty? His tops are made out of rubber, his bottoms are made out of springs! Ahem. High-energy, affectionate Rusty would love nothing more than to play fetch all day, run by the river, climb the nearest mountain... whatever energetic activity you can dream up together.
Found as a stray in West Virginia, he lived in a foster home before coming up to us - we think Rusty's got GREAT potential and will be well-mannered with a patient family and good basic obedience training. Because of his energy level a home with kids under the age of 10yrs old isn't recommended, and he'll also need a home without cats. Rusty is two years old, neutered and fully vaccinated, ready to go home with his new family today! Make an appointment to meet this dynamic dog and prepare yourself for tons of fun!

NEIL
Look at that bumbling baby! Neil is a sweet three-month-old mix. He and his brother Tyson came up to us from a Kentucky rescue and have been steadily adjusting to shelter life. Neil is still quite shy, though once you spend some time with him, he opens up into a joyful little dog.
He is food motivated and enjoys his dinner and his treats, so it's safe to say the way to his heart is through his stomach! Both of the boys are strong chewers, and they love their kong toys.
Neil would do best in a home with another dog to help him open up, and no small children. Neil is neutered and up to date on his vaccines, and if you're looking for a puppy with potential, he's the one for you! Neil currently weighs 30 pounds and will be a fairly large dog when full grown.
LUISA
Beautiful, silly Luisa is a shy girl who smiles and wiggles for those she knows and loves. She's learning to socialize with new people and gain the confidence of a well-rounded dog - we've seen that a slower-moving, patient approach has her sharing affection in no time! She's friendly though cautious with other dogs but around her sister and known dog-friends - wow, can she play! And play...and play... Louisa's sweet and curious nature extends to cats, whom she's optimistic will enjoy her company (because who wouldn't?). With abundance of energy for walks + recreation yet still willing to lay around for hours with a squeaky toy in her mouth, lounging by your feet - we think that in the right home she'll be the perfect companion - well-behaved and fun.
Luisa is 2 years old, 60 lbs, spayed and fully vaccinated, ready for her new home today - please make an appointment to come meet her!

MIKE
is a mix from Puerto Rico, who came in with his brother Michael. We estimate that he is about four years old, and he weighs about 30 pounds. Mike loves to run and play outside with other dogs. He is a sweet boy with a gentle nature, but he is shy with people and takes a long time to warm up.
To help him feel more comfortable with his new family, we are looking for a home with another dog. Mike needs a cat free home because he likes to chase them. He will need some socialization and obedience training. Mike walks well on a leash.

MICHEAL
is a sweet mix from Puerto Rico, who came in with his brother Mike. We estimate that he is about 4 years old and he weighs about 40 pounds. Michael is more outgoing than his brother, but he is shy with new people and takes a little while to warm up.
Once he gets to know you, he will come up to greet you with a goofy smile and a wagging tail. He loves to run around outside and play with other dogs, so we are looking for a home with a dog friend who can help him feel more comfortable. Michael will need some socialization and obedience training. Michael walks well on a leash.

BELLA
This darling little lady's about 5 months old and weighs 25lbs. Bella's a high-energy pup with a special fondness for toys - and food! Boy does she like her treats. And in spite of having a rough start in life, she's loving and eager to please. Like any puppy, Bella will need basic obedience training and leash work to improve her manners, but we think that with patience and attention she'll be a fine citizen and family member. Bella would do best as the only dog in the home and one with older children.
So, do you want all the kisses and playtime a person could possibly endure? Then come meet Bella whose wholesome, joyful heart would be a blessing in any family. Up to date on vaccines and spayed, she's ready for her new home today.

BUTTER PECAN
Sweet, but very shy, Butter Pecan is a 45 lb four-year-old spayed lab mix who was flown up from Puerto Rico around two years ago. Building trust with Butters is a slow, but rewarding process. During her time at the shelter, she's grown more and more comfortable with our volunteers and staff to the point where she's begun to accept affection and gets excited when she notices us arrive, so we're confident that while it will be a long process of working with her, she has the capacity to be a very loving dog.
She thrives with canine company! When she's out in the yard with her best buddies Mike and Micheal, she'll join right in when the two of them are getting pet and acts far more comfortable with their more confident personalities to bounce off of. She's a lady with simple tastes who enjoys her milk bones and a good walk with a person she trusts. Butter Pecan is up to date on her vaccines and will require a fenced in yard to adopt.

RIP WHEELER
is a special boy who needs a special home.
Rip is a Belgian Malinois mix who was found roaming the streets, doing as he pleased. This hunk weighs in at a whopping 70 pounds (of muscle)! Rip came into the shelter and found himself overwhelmed with all of the commotion that a busy day brings, causing many distractions with his training.
Because of this, Rip took a “vacation” to focus on himself at Empire State K9 services, where he was professionally trained. Rip put in the hard work and came back a changed man! This boy THRIVES with consistency, structure and stability. For Rip to continue his success, he will need an active owner who is dedicated to continuing Rip’s personal journey to becoming the best version of himself that we all know he can be.
Empire State K9 has offered to work with Rip’s adopter to enable continued success and to aid in a smooth transition to “home life”, something that Rip has not been fortunate enough to have…yet!
Although Rip likes other dogs, not all other dogs like him, as his play style is very rough and rowdy. In order for Rip to get the attention and time he needs, he will need to be the only animal in the house. Due to his size, strength and doofiness, Rip will not be placed with children.
Rip qualifies for Pets for Patriots.

TYSON
What stunning eyes you have! What a cute little howl!
Tyson is a three-month-old mix who came up to us from a rescue in Kentucky. He is very unsure about the world but opens up once he's gotten to know you. He is more timid than his brother but get him outside and he opens up wonderfully. This boy is quite the strong chewer and enjoys tough toys that he can go to town on.
We believe Tyson would do best in a home with another dog to help him out of his shell and no small children. Tyson is up to date on his vaccines and neutered. For a sweet puppy that will take a bit of patience, Tyson is your guy.

OLLIE
Do you like chickens? Ollie sure does! This handsome boy was surrendered to a shelter in Kentucky before coming to AWS. He loved chasing the chickens at his old home, so he's in search of a home without them and cats too.
Ollie is playful, affectionate, and is about 3 years old.

HUEY
If you like floppy, goofy hounds, Huey is the right dog for you! Huey is a 3 yr old neutered male Hound mix from a Florida Rescue who weighs about 45 pounds and does well with cats. He's an outgoing boy who's always excited to meet people. He's playful, energetic, and he loves to romp around in the yard with his toys.
Huey would be an excellent fit for a home that wants a sweet, silly hound with a long, lovely face. Huey tested positive for Heartworm and is current undergoing his treatment.
